The USS Missouri, BB-63, was the third ship of the Iowa class and was commissioned in 1944. She supported attacks on Kyushu and Okinawa in the Pacific War, and took part in the bombardment of Muroran in Hokkaido. Japan's surrender documents were signed on her decks on September 3, 1945. After the Korean War she was mothballed at the reserve fleet anchorage, then refitted with modern equipment and returned to the Navy in 1986. After Iraq invaded Kuwait, she and her sister ship Wisconsin deployed to the Middle East, where she helped conduct the first combat firing of Tomahawk cruise missiles during the opening stages of the Gulf War. This Tamiya kit faithfully depicts the Missouri as she appeared in 1991. Parts have been tooled to update the kit. Paint and assembly are required. SUITED TO GENERAL HOBBY: Plastic models
