The Space Shuttle was a transportation system linking Earth and orbit. NASA began developing it in 1972. Between the first launch of Columbia in 1981 and the program's retirement in 2011, there were 135 launches. Shuttles carried out a wide range of missions, including experiments in the onboard space laboratory, multipurpose replenishment flights, construction of the International Space Station (ISS) from modules, and the deployment of space telescopes and satellites. Columbia and Challenger were lost in accidents. Atlantis launched the Magellan probe to Venus in May 1989 and the Galileo probe to Jupiter that October. In 2000 it carried out an ISS assembly and resupply mission. Atlantis flew the program's final mission successfully, closing out more than 30 years of shuttle operations. This plastic model kit reproduces the Space Shuttle Atlantis at 1/100 scale. Its length is 373mm and its full width is 238mm. The kit can be built as the last flight in July 2011 and other configurations. Fits general hobby plastic models.
