This kit recreates the U.S. M36 tank destroyer. Tamiya first released the subject in 1968 as a motorized single-motor kit. This version is rebuilt from the ground up with new tooling, except for the M2 machine gun and the clear parts shared with other Tamiya WWII kits. ABOUT THE M36: During WWII, U.S. forces developed the M10 tank destroyer with a 76.2mm gun, but it was ineffective against powerful German tanks such as the Tiger and Panther. The M36 sat on an M10A1 chassis with a 450hp gasoline engine, and it added an open-top turret and a 90mm gun. It first saw action on the Franco-German border in October 1944 and served until Germany's surrender in May 1945. More than 1,000 M36s were deployed among 21 battalions and supported the Allied advance. 1/35 scale plastic model assembly kit. Length 216mm, width 88mm. The open-top turret is faithfully captured from extensive research on the real tank. New parts throughout, except the M2 heavy machine gun and transparent parts. The turret interior includes the 90mm gun breech and auxiliary machinery. The protruding turret rear counterweight is realistically reproduced. Fits general hobby plastic models.
