The Porsche 959 was first shown at the 1983 Frankfurt auto show as a study for a full-time four-wheel drive Group B supercar. Its capabilities developed through testing and competition, including the Paris-Dakar Rally and the Le Mans 24 Hours. Porsche applied its race technology to the 959 to make a car that is comfortable, smooth and quiet inside, with high safety margins. Despite its 450hp, it drives easily at lower RPM. The 2848cc flat-six is descended from the 956 and 962 Group C racers. It is air and liquid cooled, has DOHC and two turbochargers, and reaches more than 300km/h. The car accelerates strongly in all conditions and still brakes in short distances.
