The 1980s was the decade of the hot hatchback. Volkswagen's MK2 GTI 16V was a favorite among enthusiasts. Tamiya has recreated the MK2 GTI as a rally race car in A7 class competition. The body sits on the MF-01 chassis, which handles both asphalt and flat dirt. MF-01X: a compact 4WD built on a tough monocoque frame with integrated gearboxes. It works on road or flat dirt. The rear-mounted motor drives the rear wheels through gears, and a propeller shaft carries power to the front. Both gearboxes have differential gears. The battery sits in the chassis center for balance, and four-wheel independent double wishbone suspension uses friction dampers.
