In 1932, the German Army Ordnance Bureau began developing a range of half-tracks, from 1-ton up to 18-ton tractors, and assigned different manufacturers to each. Krauss-Maffei of Munich took the 8-ton class. Having studied half-tracks since 1928, the firm produced a prototype, the KMm7, in 1933. It was refined into the KMm8 and KMm9, and the KMm10 entered production in 1936, when the 8-ton model was officially designated the Medium 8-ton Tractor (Sd.Kfz. 7). The final pre-war model, the KMm11, was completed in 1938 and went straight into production. About 1,200 of the 8-ton half-tracks were built by the end of World War II. This kit represents the version carrying a 20mm four-barreled anti-aircraft machine gun (Sd.Kfz. 7/1). Paint and assembly required.
