About this part
This highly detailed 1/320 scale kit measures 16 inches long when complete. Decals are included for the Forrest Sherman, Turner Joy, and Edson destroyers. Skill level 2. Admiral Nimitz believed destroyers would hold a secure place in the fleet of the future. The Forrest Sherman launched in 1957, during the week of President Eisenhower's second inauguration. Her hull has an all-aluminum superstructure, including the gun foundations. Her higher freeboard keeps her dry, and her design makes her stable and easy to maintain. She was among the last of the all-gun destroyers. She carried an automatic rapid-fire gun mount forward and two aft, plus several anti-aircraft guns, hedgehogs, depth charges, and both anti-submarine and anti-surface torpedoes. In 1958 she patrolled the eastern Mediterranean, then joined the Seventh Fleet off Taiwan to support the threatened islands of Quemoy and Matsu.
