This 1/135 scale Convair 990 Coronado is built from the Revell tooling. The box art is new, and the NASA decals were created by Starfighter Decals, with box art by Rusty Cowart. Builder note: the injector pins on this form run a little short and need to be shimmed up. The kit has no clear parts, but the swivel stand is included. The slot in the fuselage must be cut out completely to accept the mounting ball. The Coronado was the first airliner designed to operate at near-sonic speeds. Four General Electric CJ805-23 aft-fan jet engines, each rated at 16,100 pounds of thrust, gave it a cruising speed of Mach 0.85 at 35,000 feet. It was the fastest commercial airliner in the world at the time. Its wingspan was 120 feet and its overall length was 139 feet 2.4 inches. It could carry 96 first-class passengers in four-abreast seating, or 121 coach passengers in five-abreast seating. Cabin pressure was held at constant sea level for passenger comfort, and the interior lighting and decor received careful attention.
